When Do I Get The Keys to My New House?!
If it’s been a while since you sold a Home, you may remember that at one point the closing time was 6 PM meaning the seller had to be out by 6 PM and the buyer had access after 6 PM.
That is no longer true.
There is a lot that happens on closing day. Yes, you are busy, stressed, excited and frazzled but you aren’t the only one busy that day. The lawyers are busy as well! They need to ensure that the previous owners are removed from title, the new owners are added on, the money is transferred from the lender and from the buyer’s lawyer to the seller’s lawyer, the keys are transferred, and everything is double and triple checked so there are no surprises.
Factor in that many lawyers have multiple closings on the same day and it quickly becomes a stressful day for everyone.

Technology has given lawyers the ability to get the transfer of ownership down much quicker than ever before but this also has lead to closings being earlier and earlier in the day with some closings happening as early as 10am. This brings about the issue that seller’s don’t know exactly when they have to be out and buyers may not have access in the time frame they have scheduled movers.
If you are planning to buy and sell this adds a little stress to coordinating your move. The good news is that we have best practices we use that begin when you submit the offer. Our Mission involves providing differentiated service to our clients and part of that is ensuring we think about the things you may not and that is why it’s always important to work with a realtor that is working for you!
